^ A very famous coffeeshop!
^ Us doing our thing.
^ You gotta love a good German / Austrian market!
Vienna is honestly such a pleasant city. It has SO many posh buildings and sometimes you walk through and think 'am I really living in this century?' Apparently it's not too expensive to live there. What a glorious place to move to!
BUDAPEST
Budapest was definitely my favourite place.
I can't say why exactly, but I had so much fun and it helped that the weather was truly amazing! Budapest is actually two cities for the price of one - Buda and Pest. The Danube runs between the two. Hungary is a very interesting country in general actually, because it has a lot of influences from the east. The Ottomans were in power for hundreds of years so it's no wonder Hungarian food is littered with paprika or the language is more similar to Japanese than to German!
Buda is the posh part of the city but Pest is where it's all happening - and where we stayed...
^ Fantastic views from on top of the hill on the Buda side
^ The second largest synagogue in the world!
^ Most amazing food!
^ Very sad and poignant. This is a memorial for Jews that were killed in Budapest. Many were lined up and shot into the river. There are even little booties that children would have worn.
^ The tremendous Parliament building
^ Budapest is famous for its thermal baths. Apparently the city lies on some unstable tectonic plate, which means that naturally hot water is produced. There are many lovely bath houses situated across the city, many done up in a Turkish style. I couldn't really take any proper pictures of the baths but they were amazing (although they smelt pretty bad.)
^ Glorious weather!
^ Views of the Palace and the Chain Bridge at night. Amazing!
Stay tuned for Romania and Bulgaria!
