FOTD: 23/10/14

Hi guys,

So from today I want to start doing 'Face of the Day' posts as well as the normal OOTDs. I think this will perhaps encourage me to change up my make-up more because I always seem to wear the same damn look everyday, haha! (not that that's a bad thing but when there are so many possibilities, why not go for 'em??)

Today is quite a productive day and, being in the autumn spirit, I opted for a very deep lip colour and neutral eyes with winged eyeliner. Keep reading for the breakdown...

Before I applied any make-up, I cleansed with my Body Shop Tea Tree Facial Wash, which is especially good for oily / combination skin. Then came the moisturising cream (I like to use a simple one from Boots.) The next step I do is something I've only recently added to my morning skincare routine, and that is suncream. Despite the fact that winter is almost here, we are still subject to UV rays on a daily basis, even though it may not feel particularly sunny outside. The sun's rays are the ultimate source of wrinkles, so I've decided to start early and combat them while I can, haha xD

1. MAC Pro Longwear Concealer...
   ...comes first! This may sound odd but I actually use this concealer as a foundation, simply because I find that MAC's products are quite high coverage and it allows my skin to be an even tone with a little bit of my natural glow coming through - always a good thing.
2. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer
I put this on my dark circles and blemishes.
3. Collection Pressed Powder
I used this to set my concealer and dusted some over my T-zone because that is the area that gets particularly oily during the day.
4. MAC Harmony Blush
Used this on the tops of my cheekbones and worked it up towards my hairline. Gave a lovely warmth to my face without looking orange.

5. MAC Paint Pot in Bare Study

I used this as a nice base for my eyeshadow and just to give my eyes a nice, bright glow.

6. Beauty UK Eyeshadow Collection in Earth Child

I used a light grey shadow from this palette on my lid, but only halfway. I also used some on the outer corner.

7. Collection Extreme 24 Hour Felt Tip Liner

When I apply liquid eyeliner I tend to use this felt-tip liner first to draw the outline and shape of what I want. If I go straight in with the liquid liner, messing up is usually guaranteed!

8. Collection Fast Stroke Eyeliner

...and then I use this to get the perfect line.

9. Maybelline The Colossal Go Extreme! Volum' Mascara

The final step for my eyes.

10. Topshop Lip Bullet in Bewitched

An amazing deep purple colour; highly pigmented.

Hi all,

Ahh, how I love autumn. The leaves are starting to go brown and are slowly succumbing to the force of gravity. The weather of late has been slightly weird, but now I think it's going to stay as chilly as it has been for the past couple of days, which means lots of layers, coats and autumnal make-up!

I'm loving the skirt / trainers combo; it's a great way to keep an outfit from being predominantly feminine. I personally don't like to go 100% girly so I tend to keep things a little bit urban, whether that's with shoes, accessories or prints. I felt that this outfit was quite structured - the coat and the skirt have very structured lines and the halterneck against a middle parting is also quite...can't think of the word, but you probably know where I'm coming from! Make-up and hair was quite simple today also. It's back to the basics for Rhi Rhi...

Products I'm Loving!

I'm aware that I haven't posted in a stupidly long time, which I do apologise for, but I have recently moved to university (and also I've been quite ill) so I haven't really had time / energy to update the blog! However, I'm making an effort today by sharing with you guys some of my favourite products at the mo...

1. Baylis & Harding Beauticology Bath & Shower Cream in Coconut & Lime

Have you ever seen such a huge bottle of shower gel? This whopping 750ml bottle of zesty coconut and lime shower gel is an incredible pick-me-up. It lathers quickly and leaves my skin feeling really smooth and supple. I find it leans more towards lime than coconut where the smell is concerned, but nevertheless it's a really lovely product that retails for about £3, which is ridiculous, in my opinion. Ridiculously cheap!

2. Coconut & Cream exfoliating shower smoothie by I love...

To go alongside the coconut and lime shower gel, I've been using this exfoliating 'shower smoothie' which actually does taste good enough to consume. Seriously, this exfoliator SMELLS LIKE HEAVEN. If you don't like sweet scents, this may not be for you, but it's definitely the perfect match for me! It's not too harsh on the skin and is just good for those days when you feel like you need and extra good scrub.

3. eos lipbalm in Sweet Mint

I'm a big fan of the eos lipbalms in general but this particular flavour stood out for me. I don't usually like mint but on the lips it is great because it soothes as well as moisturises. The lipbalms are paraben free and 95% organic, as well as being super cute!

4. MAC Mineralize Rich Lipstick in Posh Tone

I've recently been loving this lipstick by MAC which I've decided is my go-to 'your lips but better' lipstick. It's a beautiful nude / pink colour with a hint of shine that isn't at all drying and is quite buildable. Obviously it's not cheap but I generally think MAC lipsticks are of a very high quality and do perform well. By the way, sorry about my pathetic swatch xD

5. Maybelline Colour Show Vinyl nail polish in Black to the Basics

This may seem like quite a boring nail polish colour but in all honesty I have been loving simple, plain black nails for autumn - you just can't go wrong. I also really like the sleek packaging.

6. Tom Ford nail polish in Toasted Sugar

Oh, to own a Tom Ford nail polish...wait, scrap that; oh, to own a Tom Ford product. This was a gift and I have been absolutely loving the colour. Again, with nude nails you can't go wrong at all especially as they go with any and every outfit. This particular nail polish goes really well with my skin tone and I really like the packaging as well - so glam! I forgot to take a picture of my own nails with Toasted Sugar but there seem to be a lot of reviews on it elsewhere so check those out to see it in all its glory. It is sheer so you will need to apply at least 2 - 3 coats to get that creamy finish.

7. Sleek Face Form in Fair

I've had this product for absolutely ages but I come back to it time and time again simply because it fits contouring powder, blusher and highlighter into one neat compact. It's very handy and the powders are all of a very decent size. There are four different shades of this kit available and I have the lightest one which is called 'fair', so the contour powder and blusher are suited very well to my paler skin. The highlighter and blusher do have shimmer in them but it is quite subtle so very good for everyday use. Sleek products aren't very expensive either so I think for what you get in the Face Form kit, it's worth it. 

8. Make-up Masterclass by Jemma Kidd

I don't know why I haven't talked about this book before; I've had it for a while and it is so good! It covers all the basics of make-up: the products, the brushes, skincare, different looks, what is suitable for different skintones and different occasions...you name it! I'm positive that it would be an excellent book for beginners because it includes step-to-step guides on how to apply certain products to different areas and tips and tricks that are really good to know if you are experimenting with make-up for the first time. Having said that, as a person who has been wearing make-up for a number of years, I still find it incredibly useful to refer back to, often because I want to try a new look or can't think of a particular look that I want to try for a particular occasion. I can't really go into detail too much because it's pretty self-explanatory! Despite using the web and YouTube, I like having a book on hand for some inspiration and guidance.
